Job Title: Assistant Cemetery Manager

Location: Temple Hills, MD

Work Environment: On-site

Schedule:

  • 7:30am-4:30pm Monday though Friday with alternating Saturdays - to include a day off during the week
  • Parking: Free
  • Dress Code: Professional attire; blazer optional

Position Summary

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Assistant Cemetery Manager to support the Cemetery Manager in overseeing the daily operations of a cemetery. This role is essential in maintaining the smooth functioning of the site and ensuring compassionate, professional service to families. In the absence of the Cemetery Manager, and under the direction of the Director, the Assistant Manager will assume full operational responsibilities. This is a direct hire role with a salary dependent on exprience ranging from $50-64k


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily cemetery operations when the Cemetery Manager is absent
  • Assist the Cemetery Manager with administrative, operational, and supervisory duties
  • Present and sell cemetery goods and services
  • Direct and coordinate daily funeral activities
  • Schedule interments and appointments (memorials, burials, pre-needs)
  • Process and adjudicate insurance claims
  • Lead funeral processions and oversee burial operations
  • Answer phones and handle customer inquiries
  • Assist with staff management and training
  • Learn budgeting and management responsibilities for future leadership opportunities

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred

Experience:

  • 2+ years of demonstrated management experience required
  • No prior cemetery experience required; full training provided

Skills & Attributes:

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High reliability and professionalism
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including Saturdays
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Willingness to learn cemetery software (HMIS Café - training provided)

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds unassisted
  • Comfortable working in extreme weather conditions
  • Capable of bending, kneeling, stooping, and extensive walking
  • Manual dexterity to operate office equipment
  • Valid driver's license
